About Ken Richardson

I began making knives from old cross cut saws in my spare time from my horseshoeing business around 1990.

In 1975 we moved to Dillard, Mo and setup a forge shop on my friends’ quarter horse ranch to take care of his horses and were others could bring horses to get them shoed.

Still making knives in spare time we lived with our 7 kids in sight of the Dillard Mill where I fashioned a small shop and began making knives which became more and more of a full time job.

We soon had to have a ready supply of steel and settled on 1085 spring steel the closest in metallurgy to the old saws. We then found a ready supply of shed deer rocky mountain elk horn.

A couple of years later Bass Pro Shop and Cabela’s started selling our knives and the whole family had to go to work making knives.

Our kids all grew up on the Huzzah Creek where they spent the summers fishing and swimming; in the fall we would hunt deer and trap fur in the winter.

Very soon our friends who were also hunters and trappers began wanting our knives and each one would have their idea of what a perfect knife would be like. Over the years their ideas and our ideas designed the knives we make and they have changed very little over the years.
