Keep your blade sharp with one of our knife sharpeners

There are a variety of knife sharpeners on the market, and while some are specialised for a specific type of knife, others have a more catchall approach. For tactical knives, folders and hunting knives, you’ll need a sharpener that can handle a tougher blade. Ceramic and diamond sharpener rods are good for this, as they can sharpen quickly and effectively without damaging the blade. There are also manual and electric knife sharpeners that work well for these knives. Some people prefer to use a stone to sharpen their knives, though this is a more manual and potentially tricky process that can take some practice. No matter what sharpener you choose, be sure to read the instructions carefully to ensure you’re using it correctly and that your knife is getting the best possible sharpening.

Different types of knife care

Keeping your knife clean is important for both safety and function. A dirty or corroded blade can easily cause injury, and it’s also more likely to dull quickly. Keeping your knife clean and dry will help to prevent this, and there are a number of products available to help you do so. Knife oils and cleaners help to remove dirt, grime and fingerprints from your blade, while also providing some protection against corrosion.

No matter what type of knife you have, proper care and maintenance is essential to keeping it in good condition. By taking the time to sharpen and clean your knife regularly, you can be sure that you’ll get the most lifespan out of your knife.

How to sharpen a folding knife

If you have a folding knife, follow this process to ensure it’s as sharp as possible. The first step is to remove the blade from the handle and lay it flat on your sharpening surface. You can use a honing rod or whetstone for this, and make sure that the surface is wet before you start.

Next, use a circular motion to sharpen the blade. Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as this can damage the edge of the blade. If you’re using a honing rod, hold it at a slight angle to the blade. If you’re using a whetstone, hold the stone at a 20-degree angle to the blade.

Make sure to sharpen both sides of the blade evenly, and check your progress frequently by running your thumb over the edge of the blade. When you’re finished, rinse off the knife and reattach it to the handle.
